Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out is until 10:00 AM. Arbutus has self check-in: after booking you receive a link to complete your check-in online, and once that's done we send your personal door and room codes — so you can arrive at any time, with no reception to wait for.
Arbutus has self check-in, so arriving late is no problem. Once you've completed the online check-in, your door and room codes arrive by email or in your booking channel and stay active for your whole stay. There is no staffed front desk, but you can always reach us by phone or WhatsApp.
Yes — there is a paid underground car park just a 2-minute walk from the hostel, in Portimão's old town. There is also a bus stop right next to the hostel.
Yes — there is a cosy café and bar downstairs in the same building, open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. You'll find coffee and cold drinks, light bites such as sandwiches, toasts and salads, and a lunch menu with a soup of the day and warm mains. In the evening it's also a bar, with beer and cocktails.
When you book on arbutus.live, you pay for your stay securely online through our booking system, by the deadline shown during booking. You can pay by debit or credit card, and any extras are settled on the spot, in cash or by card. A small local city tax may also apply.
Faro Airport is about 50 minutes away by car via the A22. You can also take a direct bus or a train from Faro to Portimão (about 1.5 hours) — the hostel is a short walk from Portimão station. We can also arrange a private transfer: just request it by e-mail or WhatsApp in advance.

Portimão is home to some of the Algarve’s most beautiful beaches. The most famous is Praia da Rocha, a stunning 1.5 km stretch of golden sand surrounded by dramatic cliffs, with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and cafés nearby — perfect for enjoying both day and night.
Beyond Praia da Rocha, there are many other wonderful beaches to explore, including Praia dos Três Castelos, Praia do Vau, Praia dos Três Irmãos and Praia de Alvor. For something truly special, you can also take a boat trip from the Marina to Benagil, where you’ll discover the iconic sea cave — one of the Algarve’s natural highlights.
